About Me
When I was about 12, I got my first camera. I was involved with community theater and one of the volunteers was an older guy (whose name is lost to me). He would talk about photography with me and, when I showed curiosity, gifted me an old Soviet Zenit-E 35mm and some parts to an old daguerreotype camera (that I never ended up putting together).
Over the next few years, that little 35mm became my best friend and I took it everywhere with me, taking terrible, terrible picture. This was pre-internet and YouTube tutorials. I knew nothing about exposure, aperture, or light metering. I just pointed at what I thought was interesting, released the shutter, and then waited until the pictures were developed to see if there was anything good there.
Ever since then, I’ve been obsessed with photography. To be able to capture a moment, to be present enough to see something important that maybe others have overlooked, to allow yourself to be overwhelmed by what is in front of you and around you, that is what photography has always been about to me.
